Rotary in Action at Goldhill Adventure Playgroup!

For the past eight months, led by Rotarian Carl Tranter, the dedicated members of the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group have generously volunteered their time and energy at Goldhill Adventure Playground in Leicester.

What We’ve Done Together

Our volunteers have undertaken a sustained programme of restoration work, transforming the playground with:

🌼 Planting colourful flowers and shrubs, boosting biodiversity and curb appeal.

🪑 Sanding, revarnishing, repairing and repainting, tables, benches and wooden bins, bringing them back to life.

🌿 Cutting back overgrowth and clearing weeds to open up safe spaces.

🚶‍♂️ Restoring pathways and tidying pathways for accessibility and secure circulation.

Why Play Matters?

  • Children come to Goldhill to run, climb, imagine and socialise:
  • Physical activity: Climbing, running, jumping and balancing on timber structures cultivates strength and coordination skills
  • Cognitive growth: Problem-solving and creative play—through art, film, music, badge-making, face-painting and more—foster curiosity and self‑expression.
  • Social development: Children learn cooperation, sharing, and resilience in a safe environment where friendships blossom

Why This Partnership Matters

  • Connection with community: Local families, many from lower-income neighbourhoods, rely on Goldhill for a safe place to play, socialise and get meals. Our work helps reinforce these supports.

  • Visible impact: Every painted bench, cleared path or planted flower contributes to a brighter, greener environment. It’s energising to see the smiles our efforts bring to children and parents alike.

  • Sustainability in motion: Our efforts help ensure that Goldhill remains a beautiful, accessible, and well-maintained space—an investment in community wellbeing.

Looking Ahead

We’re committed to continuing our support where this is seasonal gardening sessions, maintaining accessible surfaces. Our message is clear: community collaboration is the backbone of places like Goldhill.

Over the coming months and into 2026 we are planning work around the outdoor classroom and the ‘grow your own’ section.

If you’d like to get involved in volunteering or support Goldhill or our future projects, just let us know: every little helps. We are on the lookout for plants and paint as well as volunteers 🙂
