Rotary Club of Leicester – Golf Trip to Thorpeness – May 2025
The Golf Section of the Rotary Club of Leicester enjoyed another successful annual May Day weekend at Thorpeness Golf Club and Hotel on the Suffolk coast.
The Club has an enthusiastic golfing section and our party of twelve golfers arrived on the Sunday eager to get out on the course. We enjoyed three rounds over the weekend. Sadly, one of our number had to make do with hunting errant golf balls from the gorse, having arrived with a shoulder injury sustained from over-enthusiastic gardening the day before.
Despite a brisk northerly wind, the sun shone for most of the weekend. The course, with its fairways flanked by deep gorse, proved particularly challenging in the conditions, and this was reflected in most of the scores.
The weekend concluded at Tuesday lunchtime with the presentation of trophies by our golf section captain, Scott Gallacher, prior to dispersing for the long drive home. It would be fair to say some were on form, some not so much and some had a standard weekend’s performance. Such is golf, but everyone really enjoyed their time in Thorpeness.
Back in Leicester at the subsequent Club Monday lunchtime meeting, presentation of the trophies was repeated in front of the membership. This time the host was our golf ball hunter, as the captain was one of the trophy winners.
Overall it was a convivial and enjoyable few days in a lovely place and a great opportunity to get to know each other a little better. We look forward to next year and to expanding the number of golfing Rotarians within the Club.
