From time to time, the Rotary Club of Leicester presents its \’Vocational Community Award\’ to someone who has made a significant contribution to Leicester and Leicestershire. At our meeting on 22 July, President, Chris Saul, presented the Award to Rik Basra for his dedication and campaigning work to increase the understanding of blood cell cancers and the development of a stem cell register of potential donors. Rik took up this challenge following his own, near fatal, illness due to leukaemia in 2011, and since then has made massive inroads into fighting the disease. Congratulations Rik – a much deserved award.
The previous recipient of the Vocational Award was the present Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur, seen here receiving a keepsake silver plate to recognise the previous award in 2017.
